Council Approves JoAnn Drive Name Change to Faith Way and $400,000 in Added Street Resurfacing

OPELIKA — Aug. 20, 2026

Opelika’s City Council approved changing the name of JoAnn Drive to Faith Way at its Aug. 18 meeting. The roadway serves the former JoAnn Stores Distribution Center property on Anderson Road, where Faith Technologies is locating its $79.25 million operation. The Planning Commission had previously given the change a unanimous recommendation.

Councilors also approved a $400,000 change order to the 2026 citywide resurfacing contract with East Alabama Paving Co., raising the contract from $800,000 to $1.2 million. The additional work covers Fruitwood Court, Maple Avenue, Darden Street and Brannon Avenue, among other streets.

Bids for the Sharp Street Extension project were opened the same day; the invitation to bid set a 2 p.m. Aug. 18 deadline for sealed proposals.
