Concerned Citizens of Opelika Draw Neighbors Out for One Love National Night Out

The Concerned Citizens of Opelika held their One Love National Night Out this week at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, 432 Maple Ave., bringing residents together with local law enforcement and community resource groups.

The Tuesday evening event, held from 5 to 8 p.m., also launched Circle of Love, a new support network for families who have lost someone to gun violence.

“It’s important to have our resource community come out and our citizens to come out and build these relationships,” organizer Willie Penn said ahead of the event. Organizers have described the group’s core message simply: the strongest resource in Lee County is its people.

The Opelika Observer covered the gathering this week; read their report for the full account.
