Zach Seifert was named club house director of the Boys & Girls Club in Opelika in June — a promotion from within for someone who started as a volunteer at the Auburn Club last year while studying social work at Auburn University, where he graduates in December.
“It felt like I was in a place where I could really build something and be a part of a community that has potential to grow,” Seifert told the Observer. AJ Harris, interim director and CEO of the Boys & Girls Clubs of East Alabama, said Seifert was already making an impact as a volunteer.
The Opelika Club enrolled 50 children in its summer program and expects at least 40 in afterschool programming this year, serving ages 6 to 18 with tutoring, college prep, financial literacy, health and leadership programs. Seifert says his priorities are recruiting business partners, sponsors and volunteers, in part to expand transportation — school buses currently bring students from West Forest Intermediate, Opelika Middle and Opelika High, and staff walk students over from Carver Primary.
