Auburn-Opelika Marks the 25th Anniversary of 9/11

September 11, 2026 — Opelika, AL

City officials and first responders across Auburn and Opelika marked the 25th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks with ceremonies and remembrances, sharing why the day still shapes how local departments train and serve.

Auburn’s Army ROTC cadets held a memorial stair climb at Jordan-Hare Stadium on Friday, and the Elks — including local lodges — led a national tribute to the nearly 3,000 Americans killed and to the firefighters, police officers, first responders, military members and civilians whose actions defined the day.
