Auburn IDA Approves $7.8 Million in Incentives for 89-Suite Marriott Hotel

August 19, 2026 — Auburn, AL

The Auburn Industrial Development Authority on Wednesday approved more than $7.8 million in tax breaks — including a 25-year payment-in-lieu-of-taxes agreement — for a $23.7 million project to build an 89-suite Marriott hotel on Grant Avenue.

The incentive package is among the larger hospitality deals the authority has taken up in recent years and reflects continued demand for extended-stay rooms in the Auburn-Opelika market, where hotel occupancy spikes around Auburn University football weekends and graduation.
