Auburn Council Authorizes $241.8 Million for New High School and School Facilities

August 4, 2026 — Auburn, AL

The Auburn City Council voted Tuesday, Aug. 4, to authorize more than $241.8 million for a new high school and other Auburn City Schools facility work — one of the largest school capital commitments in the city’s history and the latest sign of how fast enrollment is growing on the Auburn side of Lee County.

The action follows the Auburn school board’s approval earlier this summer of a construction bid for the new Plains Junior High School, part of the same building program.
