Auburn Closes $241.8 Million Warrant Issue for Plains High School

August 13, 2026 — Auburn, AL

The Auburn City Council’s authorization of more than $241.8 million in general obligation warrants — the largest single financing in the city’s ongoing school building program — has now closed, with about $214.6 million funding construction of Plains High School off North Donahue Drive. The second public high school is expected to open in fall 2028.

The warrants carry interest rates from 4.5% to 5.25% and mature in stages from June 1, 2027, through June 1, 2056. The all-in true interest cost is 4.52%. The Frazer Lanier Company of Montgomery served as underwriter and bought the issue for nearly $255.3 million against the $241.8 million face amount.
