Alabama Supreme Court Extends Tuberville Briefing Schedule; Another Challenge Dismissed

August 20, 2026 โ€” Montgomery, AL

The Alabama Supreme Court extended U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s briefing deadline in a residency lawsuit from Friday to Aug. 27. Tuberville’s lawyers told the court they are occupied with a related civil lawsuit; plaintiffs had received their own extension earlier in the month.

Days later, a Montgomery judge dismissed another residency challenge brought by Ken McFeeters, ruling that a ‘jurisdiction stripping statute’ bars the court from removing a candidate from the ballot. It is McFeeters’ fourth attempt to disqualify Tuberville, who has now survived two party challenges and three lawsuits.
