Alabama Prison System Signs 287(g) Agreement With ICE

MONTGOMERY — Aug. 20, 2026

The Alabama Department of Corrections has signed a memorandum of understanding with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement under the 287(g) program, according to a federal listing updated this month; the agreement was signed July 22.

ADOC joined under the jail enforcement model, making Alabama one of more than a dozen states whose corrections systems have such an agreement. It is one of seven new Alabama agencies to sign on; more than 50 law enforcement agencies statewide now participate. Not all are staying — Anniston police withdrew this month, saying there was no demonstrated local need.
