Alabama Carries Out First Execution of 2026 in Russell County Child Murder

August 13, 2026 — Atmore, AL

Alabama executed Jeremy Williams on Thursday night for the 2021 rape and murder of 5-year-old Kamarie Holland in Russell County, the state’s first execution of 2026 and the last of three carried out in the United States that day. Williams waived his appeals and asked that his execution be expedited.

Russell County Sheriff Heath Taylor, who called the case the worst he had investigated in 39 years in law enforcement, said he believed Williams sought a swift end to the process. Alabama has now executed 13 people since 2023.
