Alabama’s 2026 Back-to-School Sales Tax Holiday runs Friday, July 17 through Sunday, July 19, with both Auburn and Opelika participating. During the three-day event, qualifying purchases are exempt from Alabama’s 4% state sales tax — and from local taxes in participating cities.

What qualifies:

  • Clothing ($156 or less per article)
  • Computers ($1,173 or less on a single purchase)
  • Books ($30 or less each)
  • School supplies, glue, folders, and related items

This is an ideal window for families to stock up before the 2026–27 Opelika City Schools year begins.
