A Facebook Experiment – Money for Red Cross

Katz Heroes Ad 2011Again this year I’ve volunteered to raise $1000 for the local Red Cross. So I thought for the fun of it, I’d see how good of friends those “Facebook Friends” really are. If each gave me $2, I’d exceed my goal in short order.

And from the Ad to the right… Although I’m not a lifelong Lee County resident, as I’ve said in the past, I feel like I’m home now. One of the nice things about being home is feeling secure in your day to day life. And whether or not you think about it, some of that security is provided by the East Alabama Chapter of the American Red Cross It’s not hard to understand the Big Mission of the Red Cross.

But what you probably don’t see is them providing support for a family that looses their home due to fire, or the steadfast support to families of local service men and women. From their local offices in Pepperell Village, the quietly do their job. One day, providing training for CPR, that may save a life the next or conducting a blood drive. The local chapter responds with a bank of volunteers that may assemble cots at a local recreation center for those fleeing a storm or gather food for those same people. With no hesitation these volunteers respond to the need. So this year, with the need great for so many, save a few dollars to support the local effort. Give thru a Hero, or direct to the East Alabama Chapter of the American Red Cross. Those unseen hundreds are the real Heroes of the local chapter.
