72,357 Books and Counting: Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library in Lee County

Since Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library began operating locally, 72,357 free books have been mailed to children in Lee County — a total local leaders are highlighting following Parton’s death.

More than 3,100 Lee County children are currently enrolled in the program, which sends an age-appropriate book each month to children from birth through age 5. Another 1,237 local children have graduated after aging out at 5.

United Way of Lee County administers the program here, handling registrations and covering costs for eligible children, while the Dollywood Foundation supplies the books. “Dolly Parton believed every child should have the opportunity to dream, and she understood the incredible power of a book to help make those dreams possible,” United Way of Lee County Executive Director Tipi Miller said.
